It is with great pleasure that I am curating the next solo exhibition by Tiago Baptista under the title The Tale at Rialto 6, opening on the 16 of September, at 9.30 (p.m.).

Synopsis

Meredith Monk’s The Tale is a song that has fascinated Tiago Baptista for years now, occupying the artist’s solo exhibition at Rialto 6 like the effects of the remembrance certain sounds have on the echo chambers that are our bodies. From this have emerged a series of paintings, a number of unclassifiable objects – somewhere between sculpture and painting – and two videos, experimental works in which the artist plunges himself through a spiral vortex, creating distinctive times and movements and being accompanied, in this new body of work, by some of his familiar themes and motifs. Inevitably, the mere title itself stirs the imagination: The Tale concentrates an oniric, hypnotic chaos-cosmos, simultaneously subterranean and airborne, populated by creatures, beings, forms and colours which are ours for a time to discover – emerging from the echoes of bodies.
