Architecture, Art & Philosophy

About

b. 1986, HK.

I am a qualified architect (University of Coimbra, darq-FCTUC, 2003), philosopher, critic, and curator specialising in contemporary art and architecture. I hold a PhD in Philosophy, focusing on Aesthetics (Nova University of Lisbon, FCSH, 2013), under the guidance of the esteemed philosopher José Gil, a direct disciple of Gilles Deleuze. My doctoral project, titled Architecture's Body without Organs, included research residencies of two months each at the architecture studios of Diller Scofidio + Renfro (New York), Lacaton & Vassal (Paris), and Peter Zumthor (Haldenstein).

I am currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Environment at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon. Previously, I worked as an Assistant Researcher at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (CEAU–FAUP), supported by a competitive contract awarded through the FCT–CEECIND programme.

Throughout my career, I have had the honour of serving as an Invited Assistant Professor at several institutions, including the Department of Art History at Nova University of Lisbon (2022-2023), the School of Architecture, Art and Design at the University of Minho (2018-2022), and the Department of Architecture at the University of Évora (2019-2021).

In recognition of my contributions to the field, I was honoured with the Fernando Távora Prize in 2014. The same year, I was invited to join the Official Portuguese Representation at the 14th Venice Architecture Biennale.

Alongside my academic and pedagogical work, I am dedicated to research-based curatorial practice, aiming to foster new perspectives on contemporary challenges. My interests span across art, architecture, photography, cinema, dance, poetry, literature, and philosophy, and I am committed to exploring innovative forms of expression, including writing and exhibition design.

As a critic of architecture and art, I am a member of both the International Association of Art Critics (AICA) and the International Committee of Architectural Critics (CICA).

My published essays on architecture and art reflect a commitment to transcending traditional disciplinary boundaries and providing fresh insights. My book Interferences: Architecture as Multiplicity was published by Circo de Ideias in 2024.  I am also co-editor of Project : Research — Oporto School of Architecture Research Journal.

Since 2020, I have hosted the radio programme Spatial Aphorisms on Rádio Antecâmara, where I explore the intersections between architecture, literature, poetry, and cinema. The ten episodes will be published as an expanded archive of the radio show in a book by Dafne Editora in 2026.
