Architecture, Art & Philosophy

About

b. 1986, HK.

I am a qualified architect, having graduated from the University of Coimbra (darq-FCTUC, 2003). My academic journey has been enriched by a diverse range of experiences, including a PhD in Philosophy specialising in Aesthetics, under the guidance of the esteemed philosopher José Gil, Gilles Deleuze’s direct disciple. My doctoral project, titled “Architecture's Body without Organs,” led me to research residencies at the architecture studios of Diller Scofidio + Renfro (New York), Lacaton & Vassal (Paris), and Peter Zumthor (Haldenstein).

Currently, I am a contracted researcher at the Centre of Studies of Architecture and Urbanism of The Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto (CEAU-FAUP), responsible for co-editing an exciting new scientific journal.

Throughout my career, I have had the honour of serving as an Invited Assistant Professor at several institutions, including the Department of History of Art at Nova University of Lisbon (2022-2023), the School of Architecture, Art and Design at the University of Minho (2018-2022), and the Department of Architecture at the University of Évora (2019-2021).

In recognition of my contributions to the field, I was humbled to receive the prestigious Fernando Távora Prize in 2014. The same year, I was invited to join the Official Portuguese Representation at the 14th Venice Architecture Biennale.

In addition to my academic and pedagogical pursuits, I actively engage in research-based curatorial practice, seeking to generate new perspectives on various ideas and challenges. My interests span art, architecture, photography, cinema, dance, poetry, literature, and philosophy, and I am eager to experiment with different forms of expression, including writing and exhibitions.

As a critic of architecture and art, I am a proud member of the International Association of Art Critics (AICA) and I have recently been appointed as a member of the esteemed International Committee of Architectural Critics (CICA).

Since 2020, I have been hosting the radio program “Spatial Aphorisms” for Rádio Antecâmara, where I explore the intriguing intersections between architecture, literature, poetry, and cinema.

The essays published under the categories of “Architecture” and “Art” reflect my commitment to transcending traditional disciplinary boundaries, offering fresh insights and understandings that surpass conventional limits.
